Description
Dance of Fire (Spanish: “Danza del Fuego”) is a duet for trombone and trumpet with piano accompaniment. The original version was conceived with orchestral accompaniment and premiered by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra with soloists Thomas Bugnot (trumpet) and Víctor Alegría (trombone).
Dance of Fire was born out of a fascination with one of the most extraordinary and difficult-to-imagine moments in the history of the universe: the first second after the Big Bang. In an incredibly brief span of time, the cosmos evolved from a state of extreme energy, temperature, and density into a rapid expansion during which the fundamental forces began to take shape, the first particles started to form, and the physical laws that have governed matter, space, and time ever since began to emerge. The work seeks to translate this violent and fascinating birth into music: a universe still without stars, planets, or atoms, yet already containing the foundations that would make everything that followed possible. Dance of Fire thus represents the instant in which order begins to emerge from the primordial chaos of the universe.
