In Pursuit of Light for euphonium and piano

Description

In Pursuit of Light is a work for euphonium and piano by Ricardo Mollá, developed from a central theme from his concerto Awakening. Inspired by José Saramago’s novel Blindness, the piece uses music as a means of reflecting on the human condition. It poses a question that transcends sound itself: what is the true purpose that guides our existence? Blindness becomes not only a physical limitation, but also a symbol of the inner barriers that prevent us from perceiving what is truly essential in life. Through its lyrical narrative, the composition invites listeners to rediscover clarity, light, and meaning amid uncertainty.

This version for euphonium and piano is dedicated to Bastien Baumet, international euphonium soloist and professor at the Lyon Conservatory.
